Free schooling at our school in Karavia for the school year 2020-2021
Although in 2019 the government had decreed free public education, in practice few places were available. In the Karavia neighborhood where our school is located, many children drop out of school due to lack of funds.
For the past few years, BUMI has been offering free preschool and primary education to about 100 children in the neighborhood in addition to our 160 children living in the Children's Village. This system works through individual sponsorship of the children or the sponsorship of a class by an individual, company or partner organization. This support also provides these students with access to basic health care.
From March 2020 and following the worsening of the Coronavirus crisis, some sponsors were no longer able to maintain their support for the payment of school fees (teachers' salaries, teaching materials, school supplies, etc.). Therefore, there is an urgent need to find an alternative in order to continue schooling these hundreds of vulnerable children.
